Unschooling Together

Dear families interessted in our “Unschooling Together” Gathering,

As there are not enough participants, we are postponing the “Unschooling Togehter” Gathering to Spring 2027, most probabely in May.
We now first have to diggest that we pushed ourselves to be quick with the planing, may be beyond our capacity and now have to face the truth of anouncing it too late for people to join. And doubting if it also has had to do with other things? But we are certain to try again in Spring and happy to hopefully soon be able to announce new dates.
Also we will focus more on our local projects. What follows the River Times?

If you want to keep updated, please check out this site once in a while, join us on social media or send us a message:

The Gathering how it was planned :

We begin with a welcome dinner on Thursday the 15th of October 2026 when we will have time to meet each other and ask last questions.

The coming days will be structured as follows:

In the mornings from 9am to 1:30pm we will offer workshops about crafting, nature discovery, creativity and much more. Kids older than 7 years can be dropped off, younger kids need an accompanying adult.
There is space around the workshop places to play freely and for those who need a break, there is a cosy space. The adults can also roam the land or enjoy a drink together.
Mid workshop there will be a snack break.

At 2pm we all share a vegan/vegetarian meal, that is cooked for us by a lovely chef. Here all the acompanying adults are meeting their kids again and we can share our stories with each other.

In the afternoon we will have a Spanish siesta, meaning all families are doing what they desire. This gives us time to reconnect in the family system, sleep, play freely, digest the experiences or discover the surrounding area. The land the gathering is held on, can be used all day.

In the evening from around 6:30 – 8:30pm there will be offers more on the entertainment side of things. Such as theatre, movie, game night or just hanging out together.

On Thursday the 22nd of October there is a planned day of break to not overstimulate all of us. It is market day in town and that is always a very special atmosphere. We will provide ideas where else to go in the valley or families just rest at home.

On the evening of Sunday the 25th of October we will share a little exhibition of the things we created together and have some music to dance to. We are sure, it will be an emotional moment of laughs and tears.

“Unschooling Together” is all about
community, (un-)learning and joy

Community because we do this together, we co-create. Yes we, the hosts, plan the gathering and will be holding the space for all of you. But the experiences we share in this time can only be as deep, as we all dive into it. We can fully dive into exploring our full social potential.
The children will not only enjoy workshops together, but much more so dive into a new social group, with all the challenges that brings. Challenges that, in this safe space, accompanied by caring adults, let them grow into their true selves even more. And by that create an atmosphere of caring for and getting to know and love each other. Unforgettable memories of being part of a group that shares adventures.
Also the parents will profit from the community that forms in this time. Seeing the children thrive gives us the possibility to relax and reflect our parenting. To share those insights with other caring parents lets us grow and take a next step in our journey as adults. To come together, with all our differences, might be challenging at times, but bares the potential of deep connection and friendships for life.

(Un-)learning because we need to unlearn our judgmental way of looking at learning. Yes, some of us might be non-schoolers since a long time. And some of us are completely new to this. But we adults, and some of our older children too, have internalised the society’s look on what is “real learning” so much, it is a life long journey to unlearn it again. We hosts are trying to create a space, that provides the ground for learning. With carefully picked workshops and within an amazing environment. But the true learning will be to dive into the days like they present themselves and let go of all expectations. To follow our children, that are still much more connected to their inner guidance, in discovering the world day by day, moment by moment. To trust that all is there for our good and growth.

Joy because that is the driving force of our work. Joy for us doesn’t mean all is perfect and flawless. But that we appreciate the moments in life and in the time of “Unschooling Together” each like they come to us. That we absorb it in its fullest.
We want to enjoy the journey of discovering our selves and each other while spending time together. Learn something new each moment. Bring in our skills that we already have. Laugh, talk, move together trough the experiences of this opportunity.

Questions

Do you wish to come to the “Unschooling Together”? But have many Questions left?
Totally understandable, it´s not a simple task to get a whole family moving. Try to find the answers you need in our FAQ and if you still don´t know, send us an Email.

Prices

Big part of planning an adventure has to do with organizing your budget. We dedicated a whole sub-site of the website only to the prices. There you should find all the necessary.

Why here?

Eventhough we are not Spanish, we live here between 4 and 10 years. We know and love the area. It is rich in culture and nature. There are so many skilled people living here, that have loads of knowledge to offer. Also it is home to many non- or alternative schooling families.
We want to invite you to discover the area through the lens of your children.

What about the parents?

But this is all only for the kids, isn’t it?
No, of course not. First of all, the community that comes together in this time is as enriching for adults as it is for children. Also this area has to offer so much! Do you want to do yoga, estatic dance, cacao ceremony, a sauna or restaurant visit, get a massage, tattoo or an other treatment? All this exists here in the village and we will provide you with a list of people we know and trust, that you can contact about these things.
If you need a babysitter this can be arranged too.
Talk to us, we are happy to guide you to a full on experience.

What we do this all for?

We all want to see our children walk confidently out into the world. Knowing that as we are beside them, we will one day have to let them go alone. We want to know that they will have the skills to thrive in whatever direction they choose to go.
Free Kids Alpujarra, is all about nurturing the creator within our children, as they explore who they are and the world around them.
To help them build a foundation, deeply rooted in nature and deeply connected to their intuition.

Who are we?

We are Kati and Aishlinn, two single moms in our 40ties, with one (10) and three (9, 13, 17) children/teens. We are unschooling/wildschooling families,  rooted in the local community, hard working,  enjoying life and getting to know and love each other more and more.
This year we founded “Free Kids Alpujarra” and we are busy holding the “River Times”, a summer adventure for kids to be in nature together. We also have much more ideas and projects bubbling up.
Right now, we are especially excited to introduce  this “Unschooling Gathering” to all of you!
